Frequently asked questions

How do I find the BPM of a song?

Choose the song file above and the tempo shows in a second or two. No file? Tap along on every beat (or press the space bar) and the BPM shows after three taps.

How do I find the key of a song?

Choose the song file. The finder listens to the notes in the first minute and names the key, with its Camelot code and its relative key.

Is my song uploaded?

No. The file is read by your browser on your device and never sent anywhere.

Why is the BPM half or double what I expected?

A song at 140 can feel like 70, and the other way round. Tap Half or Double to switch. Hip-hop and trap are often counted in half time.

What is the Camelot code?

The number and letter DJs use to mix in key: 8A is A minor, 8B is C major. Songs with the same number, or one step apart, mix smoothly.

Can I make a beat at the same tempo and key?

Yes. Hear a lo-fi, pop, house, trap or drill beat at that tempo and key, then open it in the editor free, no account needed to start.
