Frequently asked questions
What is a chord progression?
The chords a song moves through, usually one or two a bar, in a loop. Most songs use four chords. The Roman numerals (I–V–vi–IV) say which notes of the key each chord is built on, so the same progression works in any key.
Which progression is the most used?
I–V–vi–IV: C, G, Am and F in C major. It is in hundreds of hit songs. Its minor twin, vi–IV–I–V, starts on the sad chord and is just as common.
What chords sound sad?
Progressions in a minor key: i–iv–VI–V (Am, Dm, F, E) or i–VI–III–VII (Am, F, C, G). Pick Sad above to hear them.
Is it free? Do I need an account?
Free, and no account is needed to hear the chords or open them in the editor. A free account keeps your project and lets you export it.
Can I change the chords after?
Yes. In the editor every chord is a set of notes you can move, add to or delete, and you can ask for a melody, a bassline or new drums on top.
